Healing with Flower Essences

Many of us at some stage in our lives have instinctively turned to flowers to make us feel better, or have picked up or bought flowers to express and communicate an emotion or message for different occasions. You can feel how the quality or energy of the space changes when flowers are brought into a space or how different you feel when you have walked through a meadow of flowers or a beautiful garden.

While the idea that flowers possess healing powers may seem a modern concept it is however a very ancient one, which can be traced far back in time. Our ancestors turned to nature’s wisdom for guidance and support.

It is said that the use of flower essences for healing can go back as far as the Lemurians (500,000 years ago). To them, every plant was special and had its own personality, they saw them as ancestors rooted onto the fabric of our world, drinking the messages from Earth and at the same time continuously communicating and receiving messages from starlight, the Moon, the Sun and the Stars, weaving and sharing their beauty with our world.

Flowers are the highest expression of a tree’s or plant consciousness, they are a manifestation of ourselves.

In our recent history, for at least the last 40,000 years, the Australian Aborigines have worked with flowers by collecting the dew from flowering plants to help them enter into the ‘Dreamtime’ and heal emotional imbalances. Other ancient civilisations from Ancient Egypt to Native American recognised the healing potential of flowers and plants and used them in ceremonies and rituals, physically and spiritually.

In the 1930’s healing with flowers was rediscovered through the pioneering work of Dr. Edward Bach. Increasingly disillusioned by the traditional medical approach to health, it drew him to look at natural sources, he felt that by only looking to alleviate the symptoms of disease the patient was never treated as a whole.

He understood that life is a conscious partnership between the physical (personality) and non-physical (soul). When the physical body is in disharmony, it is a soul reminder that an aspect of ourselves is out of alignment.

He left his practice and spent several years living in different parts of rural England collecting and drinking the dew from blossoms, he developed a healing system of 38 flower essences that could help with the psychological and emotional aspects of disease.

Flower essences and vibrational essences are a form of vibrational medicine, each flower, gemstone, plant, tree, vegetable carries a unique message of healing, a vibrational expression of wisdom that is subtle yet powerful. They are keys that can unlock the deepest treasures of consciousness, assisting in the deep healing and transformation of body, mind, soul and spirit.

In more practical terms an essence is the energy signature or vibrational imprint of a plant, tree, flower, crystal or some other that is held in water and usually preserved in brandy or another alcohol. They do not “fix” us, they help create an internal environment that activates

They awaken the language of our soul.

Flowers essences are catalysts to unlock our highest potential, they help us to understand and remind ourselves of who we are. When we experience the beauty of a flower, we are being shown a glimpse of an aspect of ourselves, awakening and anchoring dormant qualities of our consciousness within us into our physical body.

Flower essences help guide our soul back home.

I was first introduced to Flower Essences by a beautiful and special soul, a kinesiologist, naturopath and researcher based in Spain. Destiny had somehow led me to meet him, at a time where I was seen as a lost cause by the medical system and everyone around me, over two years my body and mind had rapidly deteriorated after experiencing a deeply traumatic event at university.

My illness took me out completely, my body stopped responding to everything. Dealing with the physical, mental and emotional challenges of this mystery illness, I felt very lonely and lost.

I will never forget my first meeting with him, I felt like I was seen for the first time ever in my life, with compassion and love, soul to soul.

With his guidance and support, I began working with essences of flowers he had gathered within the mountains and meadows of the Mediterranean landscape. It helped me to start on a journey of understanding myself and slowly peel back the suppressed emotional layers I had built over my life, the conditioning that I was carrying over my soul and the barriers of protection I had built around myself. Slowly I began having more space to open up to life, a deeper and stronger connection to myself, giving me more grounding and confidence to express myself without needing to hide.

The action of these remedies is to raise our vibrations and open up our channels for the reception of our Spiritual Self” Dr Edward Bach explains, “They are able, like beautiful music, or any gloriously uplifting thing which gives us inspiration, to raise our very natures, and bring us nearer to our Souls: and by that very act bring us peace and relieve our sufferings. They cure, not by attacking disease, but by flooding our bodies with the beautiful vibrations of our Higher Nature, in the presence of which disease melts as snow in the sunshine.
